# How Discovery Works

> Learn how BeatPass builds browse and discovery pages from content, layouts, and sources.

Every browse page on BeatPass is built from three ingredients:

1. **Content type** — what the page shows (tracks, artists, albums, playlists, genres, or sub-sections).
2. **Layout** — how the content is presented (grid, table, list, carousel, slider, or collection showcase).
3. **Source** — where the content comes from (curated selections, automated feeds, or personalised recommendations).

## Why This Matters

Understanding these building blocks explains why different pages on BeatPass look and behave differently:

* The **homepage** is made of multiple discovery sections, each showing different content in different layouts.
* **Genre pages** focus on a specific genre and can include sub-sections like "Top Beats" and "New Releases".
* **Standalone browse pages** show a single content type with optional filters.

## Pages Can Contain Sub-Sections

Some browse pages are containers of smaller sections rather than a flat list. For example, a homepage module might hold several nested sections — each with its own content, layout, and source.

## Not Every Page Works The Same Way

Browse pages can differ in:

* The kind of content they display.
* Whether they show filters (search, genre, artist dropdowns).
* Whether they are a single content list or a collection of sub-sections.
* Whether the content is static, curated, or personalised.
