# Waveform Comments

> Read and post timed comment markers on waveform-enabled track pages when comments are available.

Waveform comments are the time-based markers that appear directly on a track waveform. They are different from the standard comment thread lower on the track page.

## When Waveform Comments Appear

You only get waveform comments when all of these are true:

* The track page is showing the waveform player.
* The current BeatPass setup allows track comments.
* Your account can view comments on that instance.

If those requirements are not met, you may still see the standard **Comments** section lower on the track page without timed waveform markers.

## How Timed Markers Work

* Each comment is pinned to a specific point in the track.
* Existing comments appear as avatar markers on the waveform.
* Hovering a marker opens the comment preview.
* Creating a new marker starts from the position you click on the waveform.

## Leaving A Waveform Comment

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open a track page with the waveform">
    Timed markers live on the waveform view, not on every BeatPass page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the moment you want to mark">
    Click the waveform at the exact point you want to comment on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the comment">
    If your account can create comments, BeatPass opens the new-comment form for that timestamp.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit the marker">
    Your comment is saved as a waveform marker and also becomes part of the track's comment thread.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Viewing and creating comments are separate permissions. A BeatPass instance can allow you to read track comments without letting you post new ones.
</Note>

## What This Page Does Not Cover

* General comment-thread behavior is documented in [Comments](/help/social-features/comments).
* Album comment threads are separate from waveform comments.
* Mobile playback docs live under [Playing Music](/help/playing-music).
